Two Sides of the Same Fascist Coin
It was a rare moment of truth from Donald Trump — though he deserves no credit for it.
Israeli forces have, in fact, kidnapped Greta Thunberg.
Greta and her fellow crew members were aboard a humanitarian flotilla carrying baby formula and medical supplies to starving families in Gaza. Their boat was intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters. The passengers were forced to throw their phones overboard and taken to an Israeli prison.
Now they sit in solitary confinement, cut off from the outside world, and forced to watch government propaganda about October 7 — all under the orders of Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
But while Trump pretends to distance himself from Netanyahu’s crimes, he’s deploying the same authoritarian playbook here at home.
Trump just federalized 2,000 California National Guard troops and 700 U.S. Marines, sending them into Los Angeles against the wishes of California’s governor — a governor Trump has publicly said he wants to arrest. Their mission: crush demonstrations against ICE raids and mass deportations.
For months, Trump’s agents have been kidnapping people in broad daylight and disappearing them into ICE detention centers and foreign gulags. Pro-Palestinian activists. Immigrants. International students. Union organizers. Even the head of SEIU California.
Trump and Netanyahu are two sides of the same fascist coin. They share one strategy: impose state violence, silence dissent, and consolidate power. And they’re enabled by a network of feckless lapdogs — some true believers, others too compromised to stand up.
This is the machine AIPAC protects. Two dictators, separated by an ocean but united in their goal to crush opposition.
AIPAC poured nearly $100 million into the 2024 election cycle to buy Congress’s silence and complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Now, that same machinery is being turned inward against Americans.
When fascism is tolerated against others, it inevitably comes home. That is the lesson America is learning — too late for many.
The crackdown on Palestine solidarity and the assault on American democracy are the same fight. And the only way forward is to dismantle the system that enables both.
