Zohran Mamdani Wins. AIPAC Loses. What Comes Next.
Last night, the people of New York City delivered a political earthquake. It shook AIPAC, rattled the Democratic establishment, and signaled a new era of unapologetic, people-powered politics.
Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist, stunned the political world by defeating Andrew Cuomo, the disgraced former governor and recent legal defender of Benjamin Netanyahu, in the Democratic primary for mayor. Mamdani, who once told journalist Mehdi Hasan he would arrest Netanyahu if the war criminal stepped foot in New York, ran on a clear, bold platform: freeze rents, make buses free, tax the ultra-rich, and stand up for Palestinian rights.
He won, and he won decisively.
In the first round of the city’s ranked choice voting, Mamdani led with 43 percent to Cuomo’s 35 percent, carrying boroughs across the city. He even won Wall Street. His message of justice and liberation resonated not just with the left, but with everyday New Yorkers who are sick of corruption, fearmongering, and billionaire influence.
Now, AIPAC is in full panic mode.
They spent millions trying to stop him. They had the backing of Michael Bloomberg, who poured $25 million into a super PAC. Bill Clinton campaigned for Cuomo. The entire Democratic establishment lined up behind AIPAC’s chosen candidate, including some who had previously condemned Cuomo’s corruption.
It didn’t matter. Voters saw through the smear campaigns, the racism, the fear tactics, and the flood of dark money.
They chose justice.
This is AIPAC’s actual nightmare.
Mamdani’s victory was not a fluke. It was part of a broader rejection of AIPAC’s agenda. In the same election, AIPAC-backed challengers also tried to unseat progressive champions Alexa Avilés and Shahana Hanif on the New York City Council. Both women, proud pro-Palestine leaders, won re-election with over 70 percent of the vote. Avilés nearly tripled her opponent’s total. Hanif crushed a candidate bankrolled by Trump donors and pro-Israel PACs.
The message from New Yorkers was loud and clear. When given a choice between AIPAC’s money and a movement rooted in justice, they chose justice.
At Track AIPAC, we knew this moment was coming. That is why we proudly endorsed Zohran Mamdani months ago. We believed in his vision and in the people’s power to make it real.
This kind of moral clarity terrifies AIPAC. And they are already planning their next moves.
But so are we.
They spent $14.5 million to try to defeat Jamaal Bowman. They are spending millions more to unseat Cori Bush. They are coming for every unapologetically pro-Palestine, anti-genocide candidate who refuses to stay silent. And they will not stop unless we stop them.
We have exposed their dark money. We have helped elect bold candidates. We have built a growing movement to end their grip on our democracy. Now, we need to scale it like never before.
Because this moment is historic. But it will only become a turning point if we keep going.
Zohran Mamdani’s win proves what is possible when we organize, speak the truth, and refuse to be bought.
Let’s make sure this was not just a flashpoint. Let’s make it the beginning of AIPAC’s collapse.
Let’s finish what Zohran started.
